YORK MP Hugh Bayley has spoken in the house of Commons on the important work done by foodbanks.
On Thursday, Mr Bayley asked the Church of England’s Estates Commissioner, Sir Tony Baldry, what the church of England was doing to support foodbanks and encourage employers to pay the living wage.
Sir Tony replied that four in five Church of England parishes support foodbanks.
Mr Bayley has also praised York employers including York Citizens Advice Bureau, the Council and Nestlé for paying the Living Wage, and asked the Department of Work and Pensions what is being done to help people who use foodbanks to get jobs.
He also asked whether the Government will give money to foodbanks so they can give job search advice.
