BRITISH Transport Police (BTP) want to identify a man, who they say exposed himself on a train between York and Thirsk.

Officers said a man boarded the Trans Pennine Express service at York at 6am on Friday, June 20, and paid cash to upgrade his ticket to travel to Thirsk.

PC Ryan Griffiths said: “He then sat down in a carriage across from the victim, a 50-year-old woman.

“During the journey the man began to expose himself and performed an indecent act in front of the woman. Both the man and the victim left the train at Thirsk, where she reported the incident to the train guard. Following the incident officers have carried out a number of inquiries and have managed to isolate a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to about the incident.”

PC Griffiths said the man left the station and “walked down a secluded rural footpath which is only really used by locals”, and urged the man in the picture, or anyone who recognises him to contact BTP on 0800 405040, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
