A MURDER manhunt was last night continuing following the killing of a guest-house landlady in East Yorkshire.

Humberside Police and other forces are searching for John Heald, who they described as dangerous and a suspect in the murder of Bei Carter.

Yesterday, the senior investigating officer appealed directly to Heald to hand himself in to police, as the search enters its fourth day.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Baldwin, said: "I want to take this opportunity to appeal directly to John Heald.

"John, I know you were staying at the Morayland Guest House in Bridlington last Friday, the night Bei Carter was killed. I need to talk to you about that. I know you left Bridlington soon after the murder and have been back to South Yorkshire.

It is now time for you to hand yourself in and speak to me about what happened. You need to know that you will be treated professionally and fairly by me and given the opportunity to speak to a legal advisor. This situation is not going to go away, I am asking you John to do the right thing and hand yourself in."

Mrs Carter, 49, was landlady of the Morayland Hotel, in Marshall Avenue, Bridlington, which she ran with her husband Terry.

Sightings of Heald have been reported in South Yorkshire, including Rotherham and Mexborough, and residents have been urged not to approach him, but to contact police immediately.

Anyone with information should phone the Major Incident Room on 01377 208989 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, and sightings of Heald can be reported on 999.
