Groups that work with young people will have the chance to use council vehicles, buildings and equipment under a new scheme.

City of York Council staff will also be available to work alongside organisations to set up youth projects under Yor-Part.

Groups will have to submit details of their plans and bid for the use of the council resources and manpower and the successful proposals will be monitored to see how effective they are.

Cllr Janet Looker, portfolio holder for young people, said the scheme would support and benefit young people in York who are more vulnerable than most.

The scheme is particularly aimed at projects that join up young people who are scattered geographically but have similar needs and characteristics, provide solutions to local problems in neighbourhoods with limited resources, work on tackling social problems such as binge drinking, provide expertise or resources for groups in need, or get young people interested in volunteering or local democracy.

York Cares, York CYS, Door 84 and York Mind are also part of the scheme and will contribute their resources and expertise.
