A BODY has been found close to Selby’s railway line.

A member of the public phoned the emergency services at about 1pm yesterday and police rushed to the railway line next to the A63 underpass at Barlby.

A police spokesman confirmed the man did not appear to have been hit by a train; they are treating the man’s death as “sudden”.

He said: “There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death and a report will be prepared on behalf of the coroner.

“We are not in a position to release the identity of the deceased at this time, but he is believed to be from the Humberside area.”

Network Rail and North Yorkshire Police were at the scene for some time throughout the afternoon, but the incident is not believed to have caused any significant delays to passenger services.
