IT was beautiful weather for the annual Haxby Carnival this weekend.

The event on the Ethel Ward Playing Field included an RAF fly past by Tucano aircraft , as well as competitions, stalls and games.

Proceedings began with the carnival procession, which saw carnival queen Rose Campbell and attendants Gemma Cooper and Charlotte Maude process from the village green to the official opening at the field.

Cllr Mary Crawford, chair of Haxby Town Council, said: "It was fantastic and the weather was so good. In the last five years the carnival has been cancelled twice because of the weather. The turnout of people from the town made the day and it was very successful."

She thanked deputy clerk to the council, Jenny Bell, for organising the event.

The St Andrew’s Church Lads’ and Girls’ Brigade Band, La Classique Majorettes, the Shotokan Karate Club, the Brownies and Cubs and children’s entertainer, The Magic Hatter all took part in the procession.

Family fun included a mobile climbing wall, a speed cage and a penalty shootout, go-karts and a small fair as well as the annual fancy dress competition.
