A BROWNIE leader who has worked with generations of children in York is stepping down after more than 45 years.
A surprise party was held for Brown Owl Janet Strodder with current Brownies, Guides and family members all gathering at Holgate Methodist Church to celebrate her efforts with 56th York (Holgate Methodist) Brownies.
Janet, who is due to stand down in September, was presented with flowers and given a long service award.
The party at Holgate Methodist Church coincided with the Brownies 100th birthday celebrations.
Brownie leader Rachael Waite said: "She has seen at least two generations. In this day and age you can struggle to get Brownie leaders and for someone to have done it 45 years is amazing. It's a big achievement."
