AS the eyes of the world were on York for the Tour de France, one corner of the city welcomed another famous face.

In Yorkshire for the Tour de France, which he watched in Leeds, Prime Minister David Cameron took advantage of a weekend in Yorkshire to pay a visit to Creepy Crawlies high wire adventure park.

The PM and family were staying at Sutton Park, home of Samantha Cameron's step-mother and father, and paid their second ever visit to Creepy Crawlies and the high wires at Wired just after lunch on Sunday.

Owner Janice Dunphy said the centre was quiet at the whilst the Grand Depart focused attention on the centre of York.

She said: "I got a call from my manager but I was all the way across town in Bishopthorpe, and it would have taken me ages to get there.

"I know the wires are very safe, but fancy having the Prime Minister on your high wires.

The Prime Minister took on the high wire challenge with his eldest son, and posed for photographs with staff.

Janice added: "He told one of the supervisors, who's Polish, that he had excellent spoken English, and Mark hasn't shut up about it since."

Mr Cameron has visited Creepy Crawlies with his family once before, and in 2009 the then shadow Children, Schools and Families Secretary Michael Gove visited with York outer MP Julian Sturdy.
