Unpack your dancing shoes and get ready to face the music – ukulele lovers are tuning up for the York Ukulele Festival on Saturday, July 12.
Organisers are promising a festival of everything ukulele, including performances, workshops and good old-fashioned entertainment.
Acts will be taking to the main stages in St Sampsons Square, and The Fulford Arms in Fulford from mid-morning.
There will also be workshops, including a blue ukulele course at VJ’s Bar at 2pm, the same time as an open mike session at the Habit Bar, Goodramgate.
The York Ukulele Festival was launched last year by Red Cow Music, of Goodramgate, with support from City of York Council and Visit York.
Organisers said it followed a dramatic revival in the ukulele. Once associated with the bygone age of George Formby, Frank Skinner, Bruno Mars and Eddie Vedder, of Pearl Jam, have all helped boost the fortunes of the stringed instrument.
