THE new chairman of York Theatre Royal is Ann Green, pro- chancellor and chairman of the governing body of York St John University.

She was appointed by the board of trustees of York Citizens’ Theatre Trust, the charitable body which runs the theatre.

She has wide experience in such a role with a number of cultural organisations, chairing the Hadrian’s Wall Trust, a charitable organisation responsible for the World Heritage Site and previously chairing the Royal Armouries for nine years, and having been a non-executive director at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

Ann, who was awarded the CBE for services to museums In 2010, said she was delighted to have been appointed to chair the theatre trust at such an exciting time for theatre in the city.

“York Theatre Royal is a vital part of the cultural life of the city and I look forward to playing my part in its future,” s he added.

Liz Wilson, chief executive of York Theatre Royal, said: “Ann has the leadership experience to take the theatre through a period of momentous change that will be taking place with our capital project in 2015.”
