HAXBY is gearing up for its annual carnival on Saturday, July 12.

Carnival queen Rose Campbell and her two attendants, Gemma Cooper and Charlotte Maude, will lead the procession, leaving the village green at 12.45 pm to arrive at the Ethel Ward Playing Field by 1pm.

The official opening will be conducted there by Vale Radio’s Chris Marsden and Dougie Weake. The event will feature an RAF fly-past by Tucano aircraft, with a chance to win a VIP Day at RAF Linton-on-Ouse, a mobile climbing wall, a speed cage, a penalty shootout, go karts, a small fair and a fancy dress competition.

Entertainment will be provided by St Andrew’s Church Brigade Band, La Classique Majorettes, the Shotokan Karate Club, the Brownies and Cubs and children’s entertainer, The Magic Hatter.

There will also be a performance of Fame by the Joseph Rowntree Vaudeville Players, music from DB BigBand and Hit Creek and a town council tombola, raising funds for local groups and a charity.

The carnival is being sponsored by the Co-operative Funeralcare, Stoneplan Ltd, the Dutch Nurseries and The Parvin Restaurant, and the Farmer’s Cart, which will be selling barbecued food.
