IN KEEPING with the Tour de France, the t-shirt for this year’s Heart of York bike ride has been unveiled as a bright yellow number.

Designed by York St John BA Design student Joseph Farmer, the t-shirt features a bike with a heart motif on the front set in a number of heart beat lines printed on a British Heart Foundation (BHF) t-shirt, the charity behind the event.

Cyclists taking part in the either 22 or 40 mile ride on Sunday, September 7 will be given the t-shirt for taking part.

Phil McMahon, BHF York Committee Vice Chair and Lead Event Organiser, is encouraging cyclists of all abilities to take part in the event.

He said: “We’re really pleased with this year’s t-shirt design - a great memento for those taking part. This event is for cyclists of all abilities and we’re encouraging everyone to register early to save their place.”

As well as designing the t-shirt, Joseph has also been selected to exhibit his final year university project at New Designers this month, a show which sees over 3,000 graduate designers exhibit their work.

Warren Fearn, Head of Programme, BA Design, at the University, said: “We are thrilled that Joseph has been invited to exhibit his work and it’s fantastic that on top of this his Heart of York Bike Ride t-shirt design was selected.”

Joseph’s final project focused on sustainability in green transport, such as cycling, for which he designed a bike made out of hardwood.

The Heart of York bike ride, organised by the BHF Fundraising Committee, York St John University, City of York Council and Just 30 is now open for registration. Individual cyclists and team of five can register at www.bhf.org.uk/heartofyorkbikeride
