AN ART exhibit has been installed at York’s City Screen. The Peloton is a 15-metre exhibit which includes 200 hand-cut painted paper cyclists, with other Tour-related items.

The exhibition opens at 6pm tonight. The City Screen will also show cycle-related films this weekend.

• SPECTATORS are warned to stay safe around the electricity network. Northern Powergrid urges people not to camp near powerlines.

• STAFF at York’s Vision Express store in Parliament Street are donning yellow jerseys and French attire and selling themed cupcakes this weekend, in aid of the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust.

• TOMORROW, Monks Cross Shopping Park is hosting a bike decorating workshop for children and Evans Cycles will run a ‘Bike Turbo Trainer Challenge’ with prizes.

• YORK Brewery’s Velo-City beer is being served in the Strangers Bar in the Houses of Parliament.

• INDEPENDENT ambulance service YorMed is taking on extra duties to help keep the crowds safe, at Bolton Abbey, Huntington Stadium, the Designer Outlet and Knaresborough.

• THE national Children’s Air Ambulance will provide emergency cover. Yorkshire Water is stumping up £5,000 to help fund the service.

• THE York branch of Britain’s biggest cycling charity, CTC, has unveiled three “yellow jersey” rides in North and East Yorkshire, ranging from 42 to 81 miles. Details can be found at ctc.org.uk 

• LEEDS Bradford Airport’s terminal front now features a specially-commissioned mural by artist Jenny Tribbillon. It shows cyclists in yellow, green, polka dot and white jerseys.

• SPECTATORS can try a new sport or activity at a Sports Activation Zone in each of York’s four Spectator Hubs on Sunday, from 8am to 7.30pm. Activities include cycling, volleyball, climbing towers, frisbee, and wheelchair basketball.

• YORK solicitors Ware & Kay will welcome more than 300 guests to a Grand Depart breakfast barbecue.

The event, at the firm’s offices in Peasholme Green, will also celebrate the achievements of local cyclist Mike Hughes, one of 15 charity cyclists tackling the Tour route just hours before the stars.

• BIKE shop Cycle Heaven is offering a £250 prize for the best photograph as the Tour passes its Bishopthorpe Road shop on Sunday.

Managing director Andy Shrimpton said: “There can’t be many bike shops anywhere that get the privilege of the world’s greatest bicycle race passing by their front door, so we’d like to get something that will look good in a frame.”
