YORK composer John Barry, who scored a number of films, including 11 Bond movies, has been honoured by a major film company.
Pinewood Studios, where the Bond films were shot, has renamed its Theatre Seven to The John Barry Theatre, in memory of the composer.
Mr Barry is one of York's most famous sons, and died in 2011 at the age of 77 of a heart attack following a long illness.
As well as the Bond movies, he also worked on films including Chaplin, Born Free, and Midnight Cowboy.
Mr Barry attended St Peter's School in the 1940s and was taught music by Minster organist, Francis Jackson. After the Second World War, he formed a rock and roll band, The John Barry Seven, and wrote the theme to TV's Juke Box Jury, before being chosen to record the score for Dr. No.
The theatre is the largest preview theatre in the UK, seating 115 people, and is also home to a public cinema.
