THE public have been urged to report sightings of a man wanted for recall to prison.

Shaun Michael Barker, 36, was sentenced to 12 months in prison last year for possessing an offensive weapon, and has failed to comply with the terms of his licence since he was released on May 2.

North Yorkshire Police said Barker is white, 6ft 2in tall, with a medium build and brown hair, and is thought to be in the York area, though his whereabouts are unknown.

Police Sergeant Ray Milligan, of York Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "Shaun, if you see or hear this appeal, I urge you to hand yourself in straight away.

"We have an proven track record of locating people who are wanted and by remaining at large you are only delaying the inevitable. I am also asking anyone who sees Barker to get in touch with the police immediately."

Sgt Milligan said officers had already visited a number of addresses in the York area, and said anyone shielding Barker could be arrested and prosecuted for doing so.

Anyone who has seen Shaun Barker or knows his whereabouts should phone North Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
