AS rehearsals for York Mystery Plays gather momentum, five of the eight actors playing Jesus gathered at to rehearse at York Minster.

The Minster will form the back-drop for the very first performances at 12 noon on Sunday, July 13.

Ehren Mierau will play Jesus in The Baptism as part of HIDden Theatre, while York based performance poet Laurence O’Reilly will play the role in The Entry into Jerusalem by York Mystery Plays Supporters Trust. Student John Osman is representing the Company of Cordwainers with the York Settlement Community Players in Christ before Annas and Caiaphas, while John Hoyland takes on the role in The Crucifixion with the Guild of Butchers and St Chad’s. Finally, Martin Hoyland who works for the diocese of Newcastle as Press and PR officer will be Jesus in the Harrowing of Hell for St Lukes.
