The York couple who thought their wedding was jinxed after the engagement ring was stolen have enjoyed a dream wedding through The Press.

Hairdresser Lauren Beevers was heartbroken to discover the 1920s platinum and diamond twist ring had gone missing after she took it off while working at Kudos hair salon in Goodramgate.

It was only a month after her boyfriend of seven years David McRae had popped the question when they were on holiday in Ibiza.

But the story touched the hearts of readers who voted them winners of our Win A Wedding competition last year, so they did not have to spend a penny on anything from dresses and suits to the hen and stag parties.

On Friday, more than 50 guests gathered in the sunshine on the lawns behind the Marriott Hotel in Tadcaster Road to watch the Wigginton Road couple tie the knot in front of their 18-month-old daughter Robyn.

Lauren, 31, said: "Everything happens for a reason. I think having the ring stolen was meant to be. We won this amazing prize because of it.

"We have had a perfect day. I want to thank everyone who voted for us for an amazing wedding."

Graphic designer David, 40, said: "Lauren looked stunning. I had not seen the dress before so it was a great surprise. I want to thank The Press and everyone else who contributed to our amazing day."

Fifty guests enjoyed a wedding breakfast and drinks and the couple spent the wedding night in an upgraded Grandstand Room at the hotel where they will also enjoy two-month complimentary use of the leisure club.

The hotel's wedding package included a room for the civil ceremony, an evening buffet and disco, and discounted accommodation for friends and family.

A £500 gift of flowers came from York's Wards the Florist, while Lauren's gown, accessories and two bridesmaids' dresses were courtesy of Wedding Belles and Beaus in Micklegate.

The prize also included a £1,000 photography package from Nikki Pix, stationary, decorations including a wedding arch and table centrepieces, and a sweet buffet and candy cart from Tracy Williamson Designs and Truly Scrumptious, a cake from Candy Stripes, £500 worth of suits from Debenhams, and hen and stag days at York Racecourse with 10 Grandstand and paddock tickets.
