AS England fans brace themselves for a must-win match against Uruguay this evening, pupils at a North Yorkshire school have been getting into the World Cup spirit by staging a Brazilian street party.

Malton Primary School will mark England's final group game against Costa Rica next Tuesday with a football tournament and penalty shoot-out followed by a themed party with a barbecue, refreshments and face-painting, and live screening of the match.

Tonight's match, which starts at 8pm and will be screened on ITV, sees the national side desperate for a victory after losing its first group match against Italy.

The bad news is that Uruguay's star striker Luis Suarez has been declared fit to play following knee surgery and is expected to start.

York's pubs and bars, such as Loop sports bar in Fawcett Street, are expecting large numbers to turn up to watch the game, even though fans can see it at home, because of the good atmosphere.
