MORE than 50 people have now been arrested under North Yorkshire Police’s latest campaign against drink and drug driving.
The campaign launched at the beginning of June, and saw 27 people arrested in the first week, and another 26 arrested last week.
As the campaign coincides with the World Cup, police have urged motorists not to drive early in the morning after drinking while watching matches with late kick-offs, or after a night out.
Of the motorists arrested so far, a 53-year-old woman from Bridlington had the highest breath-alcohol reading, of 162mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath - more than four times the legal limit.
Traffic Sergeant Andy Morton, of the Force’s Roads Policing Group, said: “Anyone who is considering taking the risk of driving while under the influence of drink or drugs needs to know that we have officers on patrols across the county ready to catch them.
“We have a number of court dates set so that we can bring offenders to justice at the earliest opportunity. If you have any information I urge you to contact the police straight away and pass all the details you have.”
Anyone with information should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
