A WOMAN has been rescued from the River Ouse in York this morning.

Police said the 39-year-old woman had entered the river of her own accord, about quarter of a mile from Millennium Bridge, at about 10.20am.

Officers were called by a member of the public who saw the woman walk into the water, and North Yorkshire Police alerted the ambulance and fire services.

North Yorkshire Fire Service launched their rescue boat, but it was sent back to base before it arrived, as police officers threw a life ring to the woman and pulled her from the river.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said the woman was taken to York Hospital by paramedics, and was said to be very cold, but believed to be uninjured.
