HALF price tickets are on sale for the Grand Départy concert, which takes place in York the night before the Tour de France kicks off in Yorkshire.

The concert at Huntington Stadium has a line-up designed to appeal to youngsters and adults alike, including Union J, Russell Watson, Rough Copy, Kian Egan of Westlife-fame, York-based singer songwriter Alistair Griffin, Ollie Marland, The Loveable Rogues, Altered Images, Brother Beyond, The Blow Monkeys and The Overtones.

And the council has now announced that between now and Monday, June 16 family tickets - which admit two adults and two children - are on offer for £50 instead of the full £100 price.

And on top of the cut price offer, 500 tickets for the Spectator Hub at York Racecourse will be given free of charge with the next 500 Grand Départy tickets bought through www.ticketline.co.uk.

Cllr Sonja Crisp, cabinet member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “With a host of top acts taking part, this special discount on the price of a Family Ticket makes it a fantastic value night out for families.

“I can’t wait to see the likes of Union J – who have a huge following among young concert-goers – and ‘People’s Tenor’ Russell Watson performing here in York!”

Huntington teachers Robin Parmiter and Ian Wilson, otherwise known as Disco Mister, will also perform at the concert, playing their World Cup anthem "Bring it Home".

The concert is just one part of the Grand Départy celebrations planned for the weekend of 4, 5 and 6 July in York.

There will also be spectator hubs at the Designer Outlet, Millennium Bridge and York Racecourse and Huntington Stadium, with family entertainment, big screens showing the cycle race, as well as refreshments and merchandise. For more information visit www.experiencetherace.com

Tickets are also on sale via www.ticketline.co.uk or from Visit York on Museum Street in York city centre by Friday, June 13.
