ORGANISERS of York pride say this year's event will be the biggest yet.
The annual celebration for York and North Yorkshire’s LGBT community will take place on Saturday, June 21, and the team behind it say they want to send out a clear message the community wants people to have the freedom to be openly LGBT whatever they people are.
The event will once again start with a Pride Parade from the Minster where council leader James Alexander will speak at noon before a 12.15pm start.
Marchers will carry a 100m long rainbow flag through the streets and past the Mansion House, where a rainbow flag will fly to show the city's support for gay rights.
The parade will arrive at the Knavesmire at 1pm for an afternoon of entertainments including Heather Peace and Cher tribute act Tania Alboni.
There will also be stalls, a bar and food and drink through the afternoon, and the party continues into the night at afterparty venues Thomas’s Bar on Museum Street and the Nags Head on Micklegate, and Monroe’s Showbar on Gillygate.
