Care workers, businesspeople and recipients of social care alike turned out when York Racecourse hosted the Great British Care Show.

The free show, which was opened by the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of York, was one of several taking place across the country.

Supported by Carers UK and the Care Quality Commission among others, the shows aim to promote excellence in social care through exhibits of local resources, question time sessions, and networking.

There was also a programme of speakers, including Simon Wallace from the Dementia Action Alliance, which works to change society’s attitudes towards dementia. He called the day “a great event with a very interesting - and interested - audience. People were very engaged.”

Karen Darley, a workforce development advisor at the City of York Council, said: “I had a really useful day, found the presentations very useful and came away with a list of actions.”
