SELBY'S new leisure centre is taking shape - as this new video shows.

The developers behind the construction of the new centre in Scott Road have produced this time-lapse video, showing the past three months' work compressed into less than 3 minutes of footage.

Cllr Gillian Ivey, deputy leader of Selby District Council, said: "This is a really innovative way for residents across the district to see exactly how work at the site is progressing.

"I particularly enjoyed being able to see the steel structure rise up and I'm looking forward to watching it take shape over the next few months."

A council spokeswoman said: "In the video the new building's steel structures can be seen being installed and viewers can see work on the site progressing through all weathers."

The project began in February, and will be completed later this year.  More information on the project and more pictures can be seen on the council's website, here.  The video was produced by WLCT in partnership with Wates Construction, Vanguard Security and A41 IT Services.

The new leisure centre will include a health and fitness centre, a class and exercise studio, a refurbished synthetic sports pitch, a sauna and steam room and two swimming pools. The previous leisure centre had to be demolished following a devastating fire in February 2012.
