A YOUNG man who has undergone treatment for cancer a second time will speak publicly about his experiences to help raise money for charity.

Harry Baines, 23, from Fulford, won a Community Pride Press Award in 2012 for taking on a 1,000-mile charity bike ride following his recovery from non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

After a lump was found in his cheek this year, he has recently undergone treatment following his second diagnosis of cancer.

Now Harry is preparing to address racegoers with tickets for the Macmillan Marquee at the Macmillan Charity Raceday at York Racecourse on June 14 in a bid to raise money for the charity.

Harry said: “As the cancer has come back, it’s very likely it will keep coming back and that’s something which is difficult to get your head around. You can tell yourself you’re not going to get it but there is only so much you can do.

"My way of dealing with it is to try and support charities like Macmillan – to tell people about the work they do, how they support people living with cancer, and to fundraise.”

He hopes that by speaking about his experiences, he’ll inspire others to donate to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Harry received his second diagnosis of non-Hodgkin lymphoma in January and began a two-and-a-half week cycle of radiation treatment in March at Weston Park Hospital, Sheffield.

He is due to have a scan, where he is expected to learn how effective the radiation therapy has been, in three weeks.

His first diagnosis came, aged 19. He has supported various cancer charities since then, helping to raise thousands of pounds.

Harry, who works in an administration role for Macmillan at the charity’s York office, said: “I’m really looking forward to talking about my experiences and the work Macmillan does to support people affected by cancer.”

Tickets in the Macmillan Marquee cost £100 each, when two are bought together; the normal price is £150 each.

This includes free admission to the races, car park pass, a four course buffet lunch, afternoon tea, a guest tipster and private outside decking area.
