Malton will again bring fine dining to its streets when it hosts one of Britain top food festivals over Saturday and Sunday.
This year’s recipe for national success includes more stalls, events, cooking demonstrations and entertainment than ever before.
The celebration of Yorkshire’s finest food and drink, being staged for the sixth year, sees the official launch of the town’s new cookery school, which admitted its first budding chefs this month.
VIP guests include Masterchef stars and celebrity chefs such as Jean-Christopher Novelli, The Incredible Spice Men, and the Chiappa Sisters, plus all the top local talent.
There will also be fun for the whole family including a “Big Top” of children’s activities ranging from mask making to cake decoration.
The stage is also set for a children’s cookery theatre where Matthew Williamson, Head Chef at the Wentworth Arms, will be whipping up some mouth-watering delicacies.
Malton has been making a name for itself as one of the best places to enjoy local produce in Yorkshire and its annual festival is one of the most successful in the country.
Home-grown talent includes Andrew Pern, James Mackenzie, Stephanie Moon, Sara Danesin Medio, Saira Hamilton and many more.
For visitors wanting the red carpet treatment a new initiative introduced this year is the stroller wristband.
For £5, the wearer is granted access to the Taste Trail, a chance to win a stay at the Talbot Hotel, access to the VIP garden enclosure and a vote in the Best In Festival Awards.
If tickets have been purchased for festival events, the wristband can also give access to priority seating – on a first-come, first-served basis.
Visitors can also take a seat in a pop-up restaurant, based the beautifully-renovated town hall, and the launch of the Malton Cookery School at Saville House, after years of work.
The aim is to make cooking fun and attract people of all ages to improve their cooking skills and some of the top chefs will be popping in over the weekend to share some tips.
For those who prefer to cool off with a pint, a beer festival is being hosted by Brass Castle and Bad Seed Brewery, along with Yorkshire Ales.
Entry is free, although some demonstrations and activities are ticketed so visit maltonyorkshire.co.uk to ensure a place, or pop into Malton Relish, to ensure a place.
