IT was honours even as the Varsity Match celebrated its 150th anniversary at Iffley Road.
Oxford University won the men’s Blues contest 108-104, while Cambridge University claimed the women’s spoils 110-89.
The annual event, first held in 1864, is viewed as pivotal in the history of athletics and has produced Olympic champions such as Chris Brasher and David Hemery.
This year’s meeting was the 140th between the universities and featured an added piece of history.
A 100-plus-year-old Oxford half Blue blazer was presented to discus thrower Ben Conibear, who was deemed to have produced the hosts’ best second-team display of the day with a 34.36m effort.
The blazer, donated by 1962 Oxford Blue and Summertown resident Bill Roberts, will now be an annual prize.
