LAURA Massaro’s bid to retain her British Open title continues today when she plays fellow Englishwoman Sarah Kippax in the quarter finals this afternoon.

Chorley’s Massaro overcame Hong Kong’s number one Annie Au in the last 16 on Wednesday night to book a meeting with the unseeded Kippax who won the Courtcare Open in Chorley, a tournament organised by Massaro and her brother Chris Lengthorn.

Massaro, who in March became the first British woman to hold the World and British Open titles at the same time, remains on course to meet World number one Nicol David in Sunday’s final.

She overcame Ayu 11-7 11-4 11-6 in 31 minutes and afterwards said of her victory: “To say I’m chuffed to get through is an understatement. Although I can get quite fiery, I was even more fired up. I really wanted to win and I had to be at the top of my game as Annie is such a talented player.”
