THE A64 has been temporarily closed in one direction due to a dog running about in the carriageway. 

There is queing traffic at Murton and surrounding areas due to the dog running into the road near Hopgrove roundabout. 

A rolling road block has been put in place on the on A64 Southbound between A1237 York outer ring road and Grimston Bar Interchange.

The dog is described as a lurcher or greyhound and is white with dark patches, North Yorkshire Police said.

A dog warden has been called.

The dog was first seen in the road near the Highwayman Cafe near the Stockton on the Forest turn off at 3.20pm. Later reports said it was running on and off the road near the Hopgrove Roundabout.
