THERE was an invasion of superheroes in Pocklington this weekend as fans took to the sky for the town's annual Flying Man Festival.

For this first time, the festival included a zip wire from the top of All Saints' Church Tower, on the site of Pocklington's original "Flying Man" and some visitors dressed up in superhero costumes to try out the wire, while young Zoe Narey had a go on her seventh birthday.

The festival, which raises money for the church, also boasted an air display by the Real Aeroplane Company from Breighton, which saw a Yak and Jungman aeroplanes spiral and spin over Pocklington despite heavy rain.

Organiser James Duffy said: "In spite of the extreme weather it's been a fantastic weekend. Sadly the Spitfire fly past had to be cancelled because of the weather but the Real Aeroplane Company's display went ahead and that was brilliant."
