Eleventh hour tribute. York pupils remembered the fallen of the Great War by planting poppies in front of their school.

Children from Tang Hall Primary gathered at 11am to sow the seeds last Friday so the flowers will be in bloom for the centenary of the 1914-18 fighting.

Year three and four pupils took part in the ceremony outside the front of the school timed to mark the 11th hour of the day the Armistice was signed in 1918.

Class teacher Fiona McCallion said: “The event is in recognition of the sacrifices made in World War One for future generations.

“The poppy seeds are being planted so that they will produce flowers to coincide with the centenary of the outbreak of hostilities during the summer of 1914.”

A big thank you to the school, giving publicity for forthcoming centennial of the Great War, 1914-18.
We should remember our fallen soldiers, sailors and airmen. Most of us a proud of our men and women who fought to keep us safe from evil.
