CLIENTS of York Foodbank will receive news with their stews and brews, after The Press teamed up with the charity organisers.

A free copy of The Press will now be included with each food parcel distributed by the foodbanks in Clifton, Acomb, Tang Hall and Huntington Road.

The move is part of The Press's efforts to raise awareness of poverty in the city and to help those working on the front line.

Steve Hughes, managing editor of The Press, said: "Poverty can have an isolating impact, disconnecting people from their community and potentially leading to loneliness. The Press prides itself on being at the heart of the community in York and hopefully by working with the Foodbank, we can help in a small way."

Laura Hagues, Food Bank manager, said: " All of us here at York Foodbank are delighted with the new addition of local papers for our clients. In times of crisis social isolation can become a very real problem, and I feel that this is one small thing we can do to help combat that and help people to feel involved and connected to their community."
