A WELL-established York dentist has retired, leaving the running of his practice to his daughter.

Martin Bayne, 65, has worked as a dentist for 42 years, setting up practices in Strensall, Dunnington and Poppleton.

He stopped working last year and this week officially handed over the reigns of Poppleton Dental Practice to his daughter Rebecca.

Mr Bayne, who lives in Warthill, said: "I'm delighted the business is continuing in good hands and the patients will be well looked after with Rebecca and her associate Alison.

"I have loved my time doing dentistry. I have no regrets and would do it all over again. I have enjoyed my life."

Starting off as a dentist in Richmond in 1972, Mr Bayne said he is still visited by old patients from the early days of his career.

After moving to York, he set up three practices and went on to sell Strensall and Dunnington but continued with Poppleton, where he has treated generations of families.

"People I have seen as children come in with their children," he said.

Mr Bayne stopped working last year due to a health problem but officially handed over the practice this week.

On Wednesday a farewell open afternoon was held with long-standing and new patients and staff wishing him well.

Mr Bayne was presented with an original watercolour painting of the practice from local artist David Stephenson and a leather bound book with messages from all his patients.

Father-of-four and grandfather-of-four Mr Bayne, said he was now able to focus on his small wine business, Harlequin Wines.
