A MUSICIAN who helped create the Punk movement of the 1970s is set to appear at Selby Town Hall.

Glen Matlock was the original bassist with the Sex Pistols and is credited as co-author on many of the tracks on the band's biggest album.

Still making music, Glen is appearing at the town hall on Saturday, May 24, reading extracts from his autobiography I Was A Teenage Sex Pistol and playing acoustic versions of some of the band's classic songs.

Chris Jones, Arts Officer for Selby Town Council, said: “Every now and again, someone who helped change the face of British music passes through the doors of our little North Yorkshire venue.

“This is one such occasion. It’s a real delight to be able to welcome original Sex Pistol Glen Matlock to town. The first hand stories he’ll be telling are the stuff of musical legend, and to hear those classic songs up close and personal, played by the man who wrote them, is a real bonus.”

Glen played bass for the Sex Pistols during the Manchester Lesser Free Trade Hall gig - thought by many to be the most influential gig in British music history - and appeared on the controversial Thames TV interview with Bill Grundy. He later left the band and was replaced by Sid Vicious, but has performed with the reformed Sex Pistols in recent years.

Tickets for the show are available from the town hall, by phoning 01757 708449, or online at selbytownhall.co.uk and cost £14 in advance, £16 on the door.
