A YORK pub will reopen on May 16 following a £300,000 refurbishment.

The Fox in Holgate Road is owned by Punch Taverns but will be run by Ossett Brewery, which also owns The Hop in Fossgate.

The pub has been closed for six weeks for work to be carried out. It will reopen at 4pm on Friday, followed by live acoustic music throughout the evening.

A spokeswoman for Punch said the pub had been "redecorated and restored in a traditional style whilst keeping the existing layout and exposing the original features."

There will be nine handpulls featuring Ossett ales and others from microbreweries, as well as world and craft beers.

Jamie Lawson, managing director of Ossett Brewery, said: “The pub looks fantastic; it has been sympathetically restored in a way that retains its historical charm and character."

The pub manager will be Giles Seddon and ten new jobs are being created.

From next Saturday onwards, the pub will be open from noon until 11.30pm on Sundays to Wednesdays, and from noon until 12.30am on Thursdays to Saturdays.

Dave Rowland, senior partnership development manager with Punch said: "It’s great that Punch can invest in our pubs and we have re-established the Fox as one of the leading real ale pubs for residents and visitors to York.

“Everyone is really pleased with the transformation and I expect the launch night to be busy with local residents eager to see the pub’s new look.”
