HIGH street retailer Marks & Spencer is preparing to unveil its newly modernised store in York's city centre.

The York Pavement store will open on Thursday, May 22 to reveal the results of a refurbishment project, which has seen the introduction of a new bakery and beauty department and an extended cafe.

Store manager Andy Crum said: “I am looking forward to welcoming customers to see the makeover of our York Pavement store.

2M&S has had a store at The Pavement for more than a century and we are delighted to be bringing some of the newest features, such as the M&S Bakery and Beauty department, for local customers to enjoy.

"We are excited to share what we have been working on for the last few months with customers and hope that they will join us to mark the completion of work at the store.”

As part of the makeover, the M&S satellite store in Coppergate closed on April 26, with the childrenswear and menswear departments moving to The Pavement store and homeware relocating to the recently opened Vangarde Monks Cross.

All employees from the Coppergate store have moved across to The Pavement or Vangarde Monks Cross stores.

True but what more can you expect from a cobbled together press release masquerading as News ?
Hopefully M&S will have actually thought about how they display clothes in their Men's Dept so that it makes sense rather than scattering stuff all over the place? They could also "loose" the new lime green staff uniforms, the colour that clashes with almost everything!

The ground floor was grossly overcrowded with too few tills, so they close even more, squash even more in the space just to open yet another cafe - like York needs more Cafes! I thought M&S had the Cafe with the best view in York only opened a year or two ago.

Hopefully they will sort the lifts so they show when they are working and which floor they are on - high hope, never been done before so why improve conditions for customers.

And why do men have to go through two floors of womens clothing just to buy some underware?
