Officers from British Transport Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed an assault on board a train travelling between York and Hull to get in touch

A man, aged 42, and a woman, 34, both from Hull, were travelling home from a day out in York on Saturday, April 19.

They boarded the 7.45pm York to Hull service where a group of men was sitting nearby. The man recognised members of the group and they all became engaged in jovial banter.

One of the group is then alleged to have assaulted the man. When the female attempted to intervene she was allegedly assaulted as well.

Police Constable Cheryl Scrase, leading the investigation, said: “The victims suffered cuts and bruises to their faces during this assault and it’s vital we determine exactly what happened.

“We are currently following a number of other lines of enquiry, including looking at any CCTV opportunities from the train, but are also keen to hear from anyone who may have any information that could assist this investigation.

“If you were on the train and witnessed this assault then please contact us.”

Anyone with information should contact BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
