RUNNERS of all ages are preparing to don their training shoes for Sunday’s Kirkbymoorside 10k.
The event is one of the biggest events in the town’s sporting calendar and a major fundraiser for the local schools.
Starting and finishing in the centre of Kirkbymoorside, the race attracts runners from across the country, as well as some from as far afield as the US.
Three runs are also on offer for children in school years 2 to 11. There will also be a number of stalls in the High Street, including a cake stall organised by Ryedale School to raise funds towards their school bus.
The annual Nawton-Beadlam Tractor Run, which is raising money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, will also take place on the day, with about 150 tractors passing through Kirkbymoorside before the race.
The main 10k sponsors are The Lion Inn, Blakey, NSF-Health Sciences and Kitching Walker Solicitors, as well as Kirkbymoorside Town Council, which has provided a £1,000 grant. Catherine Eve, one of the event organisers, said they would like to thank all the sponsors and everyone who is helping to make the race such a success.
Children’s races are always a great success and a wonderful opportunity for young runners to have a go. The 4km is great for teenagers and adults alike. “Come in fancy dress or run with friends, just enjoy the run,” she said.
