VILLAGERS are being urged to wear vintage clothes when Copmanthorpe stages its annual street fair next month.
The event will be staged at Low Green, at the centre of the village near York, from noon until 4pm on the May Day bank holiday on Monday, May 5.
Traditional attractions of the fair will be joined by some new ones.
Veteran accordion players will be joined this year by a handful of local bands playing modern music.
There will also be something for the younger generation with the addition of swingboats to the usual train and tea cup rides.
Residents will also be able to see the regular stalls including the popular Aunt Emily’s Toffees alongside some brand new craft-making offerings, and a variety of refreshments will be available in the newly refurbished St Giles Church Hall, including hot-dogs and ice cream.
Geoffrey Smith, one of the event’s organisers, said it was up to people how they came dressed, but everyone was being encouraged to get into the spirit by taking up the vintage theme. Previous themes have included the royal wedding and the jubilee.
“The fair is a really good thing for Copmanthorpe because it invites the whole community, from young families and older couples to local businesses,” said Mr Smith.
