A FISH restaurant and takeaway looks set to raise more than £1,000 for the appeal for York schoolboy Oscar Hughes, launched after a relapse in his recovery from a brain tumour.

Tritons, on the A64 between York and Tadcaster at Bilbrough Top, is planning a special fundraising event from Friday May 16 to Sunday May 18.

Leyla Erimhan, a partner in the business, said ten per cent of all proceeds during the three days would be donated to the appeal.

There would also be a raffle, with tickets costing £1 offering prizes of a meal for four in the restaurant.

News of the event comes as money continues to pour into the appeal to raise £150,000 to fund a possible journey abroad for Oscar to take part in promising research and clinical trials.

As The Press reported yesterday, Oscar, nine, of Dunnington, who underwent an 11-hour operation to remove a brain tumour in February last year, followed by a series of gruelling courses of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, had been making good progress until he was suddenly taken ill with stroke-like symptoms and rushed to hospital at the end of last month.

His mother Marie said a subsequent scan revealed the presence of cancer cells in his brain and spine. She said there was no known cure but there were a number of promising research and clinical trials starting up which should give Oscar the chance he needs to lead a full life.

The appeal, which was only launched on Wednesday, had raised more than £6,300 by yesterday lunchtime. Comments posted by donors included: "Stay strong and beat this Oscar! " and "Go Oscar, you can beat this, stay positive. X"

Mrs Erimhan said she was friends with Marie and her son Euren attended school with Oscar's brother Lucas, and she felt she had to do something to help the appeal.

"The business gives me an opportunity to do something to help. Hopefully we can raise more than £1,000 for the appeal," she added.
