A York bike shop has decided to give away the children’s bikes it receives as part of an effort to encourage cycling across the city.

Recycle York, run by brothers Bradley and Casey Want, have donated bikes to Long Marston Playgroup and Pre-school near Wetherby which caters for children, aged two to five.

Bradley said that they rarely sell bikes for under 10s and that they have decided to give them away to get young people involved in cycling, especially ahead of the tour de France’s Grand Départ in York.

The brothers, who started the shop three years ago, have previously fixed up children’s bikes before donating them to children in Africa but recently decided to give them away locally.

They welcome donations of bikes suitable for children aged 10 and under to their shop on Walmgate. They can be contacted on 01904 848141.
