St Leonard’s Hospice supporter Tom Hair has mobilised his mates to take part for the charity in the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon on 12 October – and is encouraging others to join him.

Tom and his family have close links with the Hospice – both his grandparents were cared for at St Leonard’s, and his father Pip completed a Coast to Coast bike ride just three weeks before his death. Pip’s two brothers were also cared for at the Hospice. Tom has continued to support the Hospice whenever he can.

Now, with a group of friends, Tom will tackle the Marathon to raise funds for the Hospice. Places at the event are sold out, but St Leonard’s has some places available for runners who can help raise money for its work at the event

Sarah Atkinson, Community Fundraiser at St Leonard’s, says, ‘It’s great that Tom and his friends are running for the Hospice in this year’s York Marathon, and we’ll be there to cheer them on. We’d be happy to hear from anyone else who would like to take part in the Yorkshire Marathon this year and still needs a place. We provide Hospice tee-shirts and running vests for everyone who’s running for us.’

St Leonard’s need to find almost £4 million each year to provide its service of caring for local people who have life-threatening illnesses; care is free to patients and families.
