WITNESSES are being sought after a family was rescued from a ditch when their car crashed near Pickering.

A Fiat Panda, which was believed to be carrying grandparents taking their grandchildren out of the day, ended up on its side in a ditch after being involved in a collision with a blue MG ZR car next to RAF Fylngdales on the Whitby to Pickering road.

The five people in the Fiat were taken to Scarborough Hospital by ambulance for treatment for injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

The man driving the MG, from the Stafford area, was uninjured as a result of the crash at 9.25am on Saturday.

Emergency assistance was provided by North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and staff from RAF Fylingdales.

Traffic was managed around the collision scene to allow the police to investigate and for the recovery of the Fiat Panda from the ditch. The road was back to normal by 11.50am.

Witnesses to the collision or anyone who recalls seeing either the blue Fiat Panda or the blue MG ZR prior to the incident, are urged to call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2, and ask for Gareth Gilleard. Or email gareth.gilleard@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
