SCOTTISH fish and chip shops may have created battered Mars bars - but now a York chippie has gone one better with a special seasonal treat: deep fried Easter eggs.

Drakes Fisheries in Low Petergate says its battered Creme eggs are going down a treat with customers, even some of the foreign tourists currently thronging the city centre.

But managing partner Max Potts said other deep fried chocolates were also proving popular, with his favourite being Bountys. However, some of York's own chocolate bars, made by Nestlé, were not currently suitable for frying.

He said that he and his managing partner Kim Barker, jointly came up with the idea for the fried chocolates, which sell for between £1.50 and £1.75.
