TWO more men have been arrested in connection with an attack which left a man in a critical condition.

The incident happened at JT Mellanby’s in Finkle Street, Selby, at about 11.50pm on Tuesday, April 1, and a police report submitted to Selby District Council said it involved a group of up to 20 people fighting.

A local man in his fifties sustained serious injuries and remains in Hull Royal Infirmary where his condition is critical.

Yesterday, police charged a 45-year-old man from Blackburn, Lancashire, and a 32-year-old man from Bootle, Merseyside, with affray. They are both due before York Magistrates’ Court on May 1.

Bret Thorpe, 24, from Castleford was arrested and charged with affray and wounding with intent following the incident.

He appeared before York Magistrates’ Court on April 3, and will appear before Crown Court at a later date.

On Monday, police applied to Selby District Council’s Licensing sub-committee for a review of the venue, which agreed to suspend the licence immediately, ahead of a full licensing review which will take place at the end of the month.

The pub has been closed down until further notice.
