THE Archbishop of York will be opening and blessing a new kitchen and toilet at St Helen’s Church, Bilton in Ainsty, between York and Wetherby, as well as leading a service of Evensong at 6.30pm on Sunday.
Churchwarden Richard Gabbertas said he was excited and delighted by Dr John Sentamu’s visit.
“It may not seem as glamorous as a new stained glass window, but having a new kitchen and toilet will make a big difference to the church and the community.
“It means that we’re now able to welcome groups from the village and nearby areas to come and use the church for meetings. “We want to extend hospitality to the whole community, whether it’s mums and toddlers groups, the WI or coffee mornings for older people.”
He thanked organisations including Bilton in Ainsty with Bickerton Parish Council and the George A Moore Charitable Foundation for funding.
