A 25-year-old motorcyclist has suffered serious injuries in a crash on a North Yorkshire road.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said the crash involved a Ford Transit van and a Ford Focus, and happened on the B1222 at Sherburn-in-Elmet, close to Squire's cafe, at about 7.30pm yesterday.

The male rider, who is believed to be from the local area, was on a Honda motorbike and was travelling with another rider on a Yamaha who was not involved in the crash.

The spokesman said the biker was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with serious injuries, including a broken pelvis and back injuries. He said the rider's injuries were "not life threatening but potentially life changing".

The road was closed by emergency services, and reopened just before 1am today.

Anyone who saw the incident, or any of the vehicles before the crash, should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.
