A MAN has been remanded in custody charged with the knifepoint robberies of a woman and her elderly mother at a house in York and other offences.

Scott Nevison, 38, of Moore Avenue, Osbaldwick, appeared at York Magistrates' Court this morning in connection with the offences in Layerthorpe on Mothering Sunday.

In addition to two charges of robbery, he is also accused of false imprisonment and possessing a knife on the same day, five burglaries around the city between March 20 and March 31 and an attempted burglary on April 6.

Magistrates heard that some of the offences, including the robberies, can only be tried by a judge and jury and sent him to York Crown Court where he will appear on April 22 for a preliminary hearing.  On that date, his lawyers will be asked to indicate his plea to all charges and he will have a chance to plead guilty or not guilty.

He was remanded in custody until then.
