THE York film-maker who created The Press' Think Don't Swim campaign film has been approached to produce new videos which could go viral to hammer home the river safety message afresh.

Christopher David, of Flash Frame Productions, worked with The Press in 2011 to make a hard-hitting 12-minute film following the death of bar-tender Richard Horrocks, who drowned after jumping into the Ouse from a riverside bar's balcony with the aim of swimming across.

The film featured harrowing interviews with Richard's mother and sister, as well as a fictional dramatisation of a young man who drowns after deciding to go skinny dipping in the river.

He has now been asked by Dave Benson, the man behind plans to launch a rescue boat on the Ouse, and by The Press to make a new film as part of the newspaper's new Take Care campaign, aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of York's rivers.

He said he was considering creating several 30-second videos which would be more likely to be seen by young people on their phones, could be tweeted and would hopefully go viral and be seen by many thousands of people online.

The videos might include the startling images of gravestones arising from the waters of the Ouse which featured in the original Think Don't Swim film, which can still be seen on Youtube by entering the words 'Think Don't Swim Youtube' into a search engine.

Mr David said he was already working with Mr Benson on scripts, production schedules and special effects make-up and hoped to start filming later this month, as there was an urgent need to prevent further tragedies.

The news comes after another day's fruitless searching of the Ouse for soldier Tyler Pearson, 18, who has been missing since the early hours of last Thursday, when he is believed to have tried to swim across the river from Kings Staith to Queens Staith.

His disappearance comes after York St John University student Megan Roberts,20, died in the Ouse earlier this year after going missing at the end of a night out and after Ben Clarkson, 22, who died in the Rver Foss after a night out.
