The Press has an exciting opportunity for a political reporter to join our newsroom team.

We want a talented and dynamic reporter who can develop contacts, source off-diary stories and write sharp and engaging copy for the printed newspaper, our website and our social media platforms.

The ideal candidate should be diligent in wading through reports and agendas but will also have a track record for bringing in stories from well-developed contacts, tenacious investigations and good use of legislation such as the Freedom of Information Act. They will also have the ability and political judgement to write incisive comment and analysis pieces and write quickly and accurately for all our platforms. And they will be full of ideas for covering the European elections next month and the local elections and General Election in 2015.

York is one of the most beautiful and vibrant cities in the UK and boasts an exciting cultural scene, a strong and varied economy and internationally-renowned education sector. But it is also a city of contrast, with pockets of deprivation and powerful political stories to be found and told.

The successful candidate will have passed their NCE and will either be working on a daily paper or be a high flyer ready to make the step up from a weekly title.

Applications with a short covering letter and CV should be emailed for the attention of the editor Steve Hughes to paula.homer@nqyne.co.uk by Thursday, April 17. Due to the expected high number of applications, we will respond only to shortlisted candidates.
